ROMAN VITALI

Born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1969.

Roman Vitali studied psychology in the U.R.N. faculty of psychology and has a master's degree in Fine Arts (U.R.N) Argentina. In 1997-98-99 he forms part of the program of scholarships for young artists "Guillermo Kuitca" at the cultural center Borges in Buenos Aires Argentina. In 1999 Vitali earns a grant from the Antorchas Foundation, also a scholarship from the National Fund for the Arts and wins the grand prize Leonardo Joven Generacion from the National Museum of Fine Arts, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Roman Vitali laboriously works with a body of pre-occupations and aesthetic occupations ruled by the logic of the relationship. The repertoire of materials is synthesized by the use of faceted acrylic beads threaded in an old fashion style rescued from the handcrafts made in the 70s. The shapes are subject to a rigid geometric density assembling obsessive translations of a mathematical body.

His pieces generate dialogs between the units of a system and at the same time such system interacts with other systems assembling concepts that unfold a personal or a familiar story intertwined in a dramatic scene. There is even some kind of mystery and of course, tension; the stage is inhabited with absurd dialogs, with the art history, with the aesthetic of the 70s or it can be tangled with vegetable geometrical worlds or even uncomfortable architectural interventions, beams, lights, stars, flowers, sweet sparkling domestic scenes or strange dramatic familiar portraits; beauty and seduction are always the visible sides of these objects.
